Historically, units like sturmpionieres, commandos and rangers are specialized assault troops that should have the assault capabilities of engineer class troops in PGX, ie, the ability to ignore entrenchments and blow bridges, but i hesitate to give them this ability because it would also let them build airfields which, historically, they certainly cannot do.
Is there any way to separate the ability to build airfields from standard engineering skills, like has been done with bridging units?
It would be very helpful.
Conversely, a very neat feature would be the ability of assault troops to destroy or damage (like a level bomber does) airfields.

Both pioneers, and engineers ignore entrenchment levels now. (Flamethrowers, demo charges, training, etc.) Basically the only difference between the two engineer types now is... the ability to build bridges. Bridging class assumes the unit is equipped with the bridging equipment. Pontoon, bailey, etc. For simplicities sake I will refer to the two units as engineers, and bridging engineers.
engineers can build airfields, and create road-blocks. Bridging engineers can do those, plus the bridges. Both ignore entrenchment levels though. Both can repair bomb damage to bridges/cities. Both should be able to destroy bridges I think. (I don't have that in the game though !, Hmmm) You can destroy a 'built' bridge by dis-banding it ... so you can blow temporary bridges. Building a road-block on a permanent bridge hex is sort of like blowing it up. Renders it unusable until the road block is removed. Usually blown permanent bridges could be repaired quicker ? The foundations are usually intact. Plus it would be rather difficult to 'remove' the road/river hex from the map. I am assuming those hexes have multiple bridge, crossing sites, and would be harder to remover/destroy. The difference between just plain old engineers, and assault engineers depends on the combat factors I should think.

As the game is currently configured, all engineer classes including pionieres can build airfields.
What i'm asking is if it is possible to divorce airfield building from ignoring entrenchments and the ability to blow bridges.
For instance, commandos should certainly have the ability to blow bridges and to ignore entrenchments, but not the ability to build airfields.
