How are Aircraft Carriers, and their air units treated in the game.

I thought about designating 'aircraf carrier capable' values in the equip file, and only letting those planes land, or operate from Carriers. But, after playing a while...I don't think it is really that important. Playing the Pacific I noticed, it didn't really make that big of a difference if I landed P-40's on my CV's instead or the Wildcats. The factors, attack values were not game changingly different. I have always had a tendency to treat the units as a bit more 'Generic'. Like Fighter type unit instead of P-40B, P-40C, etc. I think the best Tactical Bombers are like the A-20's in the old efile ? They were rather large twin engine planes and certainly did not, or could not operate from carriers. I am pretty happy with the fast, and loose rules in use now, but if you guys think it would be a better game with more restrictions on CV's let me know .

In my messing with the BoW e-file data one of the things I encountered that was not available to BRD back in 2010 was (Carrier) Capacity. I thought I had to invent a formula to avoid total randomness. I remembered you writing a Strength factor were about 10 aircraft. By chance the first Carrier in the list is a small improvised escort type that carried 20 aircraft. Great, that gives Capacity 2. Cannot be; the least possible unit strength is 5. 5 is 2.5 times 2. So, that was the formula I used for all the Carriers. Actual number of planes carried X 2.5 / 10 = Capacity. Got values ranging from 5 to 30. At a certain point in this process of calculating Capacities I got a wacky idea, inspired by the Organic Transport concept. What about Carriers with Organic Airplane Units, the Strength of the Carriers Capacity and mixed Fighter / Dive Bomber / Torpedo Bomber characteristics? Strange! That would give Units with 5 to 30 Strength, or whatever the case. Maybe they could be all 10 Strength with weaker stats for the smaller Capacities? Lose the planes and you must take the Carrier to Port and Upgrade the Carrier by Purchasing a new Carrier Squadron...

TheophrastusBombastus: I think we are thinking along the same lines for Carriers ! Making the Air units Part of the Carrier. Sort of a LONG - range attack value. But, OH before I forget. CV capacity in the equipment editor is given in Air units ... not factors. So CV capacity of 2 would be 20 factors.

How are Aircraft Carriers, and their air units treated in the game. It seems like just about anything fighter or tac bomber can land on a carrier, whether the carrier box is checked or not. I treat carriers like pacific general. I upped the fuel for fleet carriers to 999, and a full sized fleet carrier has a hangar capacity of 90. (9 normal units, or six 5 star overstrength units) I think I have escort carriers set to 50 or 60. I really have no major complaints about carriers, at least the way I have modified them in my efile.
