José Duarte, or "Jazzé", how he liked to be known passed away yesterday. So, naming a Jazz board here "Jazzé", is none at all a typo. He is more often labeled as a Jazz music promoter, but in fact, during his many TV and Radio programs much more happened. For instance I recall his TV program "Outras Músicas" (Other Musics) in which he went far beyond Jazz into, for instance, dedicating a series of episodes to the seminal Portuguese popular music recollection work of Michel Giacometti. "Popular music" here meaning common folk recorded singing in their little "interior" villages and fields, often while they were working. Etnography. Additionally, I remember his presence in "Pão Com Manteiga" (Bread With Butter). "Pão Com Manteiga", to start with, was a collective of people who produced a series of unique projects of same name. Their first appearance was as a Sunday morning 3 hour radio program packed with the reading of preciously unique texts. And full music tracks or short jingles that were probably mainly José Duarte's choice. Later there were a few books with collections of texts from the radio shows. And newspaper series of collectible supplements with original texts. Last thing I remember mention of I think was a selection of the music played during the radio shows, probably on CD support. The Jazzé board is thus none at all a typo, but rather a tribute...
